Skeleton Crew Episode 7 solves two of the show's biggest mysteries

Sometimes a secret is a secret. In other cases, it's just mundane information that hasn't been communicated yet. In “We'll Be in So Much Trouble” Amblin-inspired Star Wars: The Skeleton Team finally reveals that its two biggest mysteries—the Onyx Cinder spaceship and the hidden planet Atina—fall into the latter category.

After they find Onyx Ash and accidentally leave their home planet for a big space adventure, Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kyra Armstrong), KB (Kyriana Kratter) and Neal (voiced by Robert Timothy Smith) discover, that the rest of the galaxy regards Atin as little more than a myth. Even in scenes set on a seemingly idyllic planet, it has heavy “Severance” overtones, with people working on mysterious tasks under heavy security in a project known as the Great Work. In fact, before “Skeleton Crew” episode 7, all we knew for sure was that Attin had the Old Republic mints.

“We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble” finally reveals why Attin seems to have so many secrets: every major character in the show is simply either an outsider who knows little about the planet or a minor. The homeland of Attina, who has not been told the true nature of the planet. When Jodh Na Navud (Jude Law) lands on Onyx Cinder and the children meet their parents, the adults almost casually announce that the people of Athens are being informed about the planet's peculiarities after graduation. All the grown locals are fully aware of the nature of the planet as a mint (and possibly a gold reserve) and that its location is simply guarded to deter thieves like Jod.

Episode 7 of “Star Wars: The Skeleton Team” reveals more than just how Attin is less of an enigma and more of a well-protected branch of the “Star Wars” equivalent of the Ministry of Finance. It also explains why Onyx Cinder seems so instrumental. The show's central spaceship, which the kids find in “Skeleton Crew” episode 1, titled “This Could Be a Real Adventure,” is known to many in the lowlife as a legendary ship. Famous Star Wars pirate Tac Rennod it used to belong to and is fully capable of surviving Athenian defense mechanisms. Episode 6 “Zero Friends Again” even reveals that the ship has a unique ability to drop its armor to escape an unpleasant situation.

In episode 7, we discover that Onyx Cinder is only legendary in the same sense as Attin himself. The ship is actually from Attina and is simply equipped with armor to survive the life of a pirate. This explains almost all of the special features mentioned above, from the removable armor to its presence on the planet at the start of the show and its ability to exit and enter Attin.

Likewise, We're in So Much Trouble provides perfectly reasonable and borderline boring explanations for the biggest mysteries it dangles in front of the viewer. Fortunately, there's still room for a few more surprises, from Jodh's true identity to the secrets of At Attin's Warden (voiced by Stephen Fry) and legendary pirate Tak Rennod. Maybe those mysteries, too, will get surprisingly simple explanations in the final episode of Season 1 on January 14, 2025… or maybe Star Wars: The Skeleton Team is just saving its biggest jaws for the big finale.
