Skeleton Crew's ratings spell bad news for a potential Season 2

The The Disney+ series is very different from more serious “Star Wars” properties like “Andor,” and one could argue that it's a refreshing change of pace for the franchise after years of more adult-oriented stories. Unfortunately, that sentiment isn't reflected in the show's ratings — and that may spell trouble for Season 2 coming to fruition.

In its first week, the number of minutes watched fell below 382 minutes, which is 20% less than “The Acolyte” in its first seven days of release. When you remember it “The Acolyte” was canceled after one seasonthe future of “Skeleton Crew” does not look too promising.

One saving grace for “Skeleton Crew,” however, is that the series has garnered huge acclaim from fans and critics alike, which could inspire Disney to give it another chance. Meanwhile, “The Acolyte” was reviewed among toxic fans, and the discussion about the series was not entirely positive. As it stands, Disney has yet to reveal its future plans for Ford and Watts' sci-fi adventure, but the creators hope to return to that world.

While Nielsen's streaming data gives fans reason to worry about the future of “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” on Disney+, the show's creators would love to return to a galaxy far, far away if given the chance. Talking to TechRadarJon Watts revealed that they were aiming for more episodes, but they went into the first installment to tell a compelling story:

“Yes, we wanted to make sure the beginning, middle, and end of this season were satisfying. But if people want to see more of the Skeleton Crew, we'd love to do more.”

In the same interview, Christopher Ford noted that he and Watt have some ideas for Season 2 and aren't ruling out bringing those visions to life. That said, the power is now in Disney's hands, and history has shown that the House of Mouse is more than happy to cut projects that don't meet audience expectations.
