The Beloved Friends guest star almost played Rachel

It's hard to imagine anyone but the friends we ended up with (which led to one of the best comedies ever). But if different choices had been made, the pivotal character of Jennifer Aniston's Rachel Green might look like Ross' (David Schwimmer) ex-wife Carol, played by Jane Sibbett, from the first show.

During an appearance on an Australian morning show SunriseSibbet asked if she was close to playing Rachel. “Almost. It's a bit of an embellishment,” she said. “I had actually left Rachel's audition and my manager called me saying, 'They love you, they want you, they want you. You have to come back next week, but they want to. you.''

However, Sibbet was concerned about one small problem that might arise for the character she was given the chance to play: “So I said, 'Did you tell them I'm pregnant?' and he said, “No, no, just go get tested, it'll be fine, that's how it happened.” On a more honest approach, Sibeth didn't get Rachel, but at least she ended up with Carol, right? Well, like Ross's divorce and many relationships on the show, things were a little complicated there.

Jane Sibbett played Carol on Friends, but she wasn't the first choice

After not playing the cafe's most well-known employee, Sibeth saw Carol, Rosa's ex-wife, pregnant elsewhere, given that she had a child of her own on the way. Unfortunately, the schedules didn't line up and Sibbett lost the role to Anita Barone.

“I said, 'Ask them if I could play a pregnant woman,' and they said the timing still wouldn't work,'' Sibbett recalls. Fortunately, things changed dramatically when Barron left the show after one appearance in the show's pilot. 'Friends' needed Carol and quickly. “And so when I got home from the hospital after the baby was born, I got a phone call.”

Fortunately, there were no hard feelings between her and her co-star, which ended with Rachel being taken away. “No one could have ever played that part but Jennifer. No one,” Sibbets said. But in her own way, Sibeth left a significant mark on the show, bringing a gay character to the forefront of television that received a warm reception. Any mention of Carol being a lesbian was censored in Chinawhile her marriage to her partner Susan (Jessica Hecht) was banned on several networks. As Sibbett put it, “They thought it was going to be a big deal, but it gave us a lot of wonderful press and gave us a chance to talk about, you know, love is love and it's something we have to do and it's just beautiful plot.”
