Happy Founders’ Day!
We close Founders Week with the Finer Women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. who have made the world a BETTER place for 105 years of service, scholarship, brotherhood and finer womanhood.
Founded by five students on the campus of Howard University in 1920, the legendary sorority raised awareness among its people, encouraged the highest standards of academic achievement, and fostered a greater sense of unity among its members.
These historic women believed that the elitism of sororities overshadowed the true mission of progressive organizations without addressing societal ills, prejudice, and poverty that affect humanity in general and the black community in particular.
Since its inception, Zeta Phi Beta has risen to national prominence with programs demonstrating its concern for the human condition, both nationally and internationally.
With hundreds of chapters worldwide and more than 100,000 members, the organization made history as the first National Panhellenic Council organization to centralize its operations in a national headquarters, create a chapter in Africa, form auxiliary groups and be constitutionally bound to a fraternity: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
The sorority prides itself on transforming communities through the volunteer services of members and its auxiliaries through outreach services and the support of several affiliated organizations.
Notable members of the organization include Chaka Khan, Anita Hill, Zora Neale Hurston, Dionne Warwick, Vivica A. Fox, Sheryl Underwood, Towanda Braxton, Chrisette Michelle, Gwendolyn Brooks, Syleena Johnson, Sarah Vaughn, Anita Hill, Esther Rolle, Tatyana Ali. , and more.
