The film studio that has won the most Best Picture Oscars

Walt Disney could win the most Oscars personallyhowever, House of Mouse itself has been far less fortunate when it comes to Best Picture. Again, if we exclude both Searchlight Pictures and 20th Century Studios (born Fox), Walt Disney Studios has amassed 13 Best Picture Oscars but no wins among films, released through Walt Disney Pictures (four nods), Touchstone Pictures ( six nods), Hollywood Pictures (two nods) and Marvel Studios (one nod). Fortunately, the Oscar math gets a little less complicated when it comes to the rest of Hollywood's Big Five — Universal and Warner Bros. both have won Best Picture nine times (the same as MGM combined), with 10 wins for 20th Century Studios and Paramount sitting pretty with 11 wins.

That makes Columbia Pictures the current champion with 12 Best Picture Oscars. As funny as it is to realize that the record is owned by the same studio that released Madame Web, Harold and the Purple Crayon and Kraven the Hunter in 10 months in 2024 (a bit of a blow, I know, but they're facts ), you also have to remember that Columbia Pictures was an Oscar winner around the middle of the 20th century. Among “All the King's Men,” “From Here to Eternity,” “On the Waterfront,” “The Bridge on the River Kwai,” “The Lawrence of Arabia,” “A Man for All Seasons” and “Oliver!” the studio added seven Best Picture Oscars to its belt between 1950 and 1969 alone. Only then did Colombia slow down; it had to wait 11 years for its next win (for “Kramer vs. Kramer” in 1980), followed by “Gandy” miraculously beating “ET the Extra-Terrestrial” for Best Picture in 1983.which even its director Richard Attenborough thought was nonsense), and more recently in 1988, the same honor was given to “The Last Emperor”.

Will Colombia find a way to defend their title in the foreseeable future? It is not impossible. Lest we forget, the studio was still a Best Picture Oscar nomination magnet in the early 2010s, releasing The Social Network, Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Captain Phillips and American Hustle. in three years, not to put more pressure on it than it already is, but now all eyes are on you, “Anaconda” reboot.
