The Evil the press tour is over but Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's “place to hold” finger hold will never die – just ask Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning.
The duo who participated A complete unknownrecently gave an interview with Advocait's you Tracy E. Gilchristalso known as the journalist who inspired the 'space saving' meme in the lyrics to 'Defying Gravity'.
Gilchrist introduced himself to Chalamet and Fanning, joking, “First of all, I just want to let you know that I have a place for you.”
Fanning, 26, replied: “Thank you, I'm impressed!” Chalamet, 29, agreed with his costar's assessment, adding, “Yeah, I'm surprised.”
The pair then perfectly executed their own version of the now-infamous one-finger hold Grande, 31, gave Erivo, 37, last month.
“It's an honor to talk to you. I feel like a star,” Chalamet continued. “I'm like, 'Holy shit, okay, it better be good.'”
Fanning admitted that she and Chalamet won't be able to overcome Erivo and Grande's virus no matter what they do.
“There's nothing we can do to top what happened, you know what I mean?” Fanning said. “We can try.”
The “holding room” meme originated in November when Gilchrist interviewed Erivo and Grandi seemingly endless Evil press tour. The journalist, who memorably noted that she was in the 'weird media', told the pair she had seen people online 'holding space' to the lyrics to 'Defying Gravity'.
Erivo replied that she hadn't personally seen it, but looked emotional as she said that's what she wanted her fans to receive. her performance as Elphaba. Meanwhile, Grande reached out to her to offer support, but instead of holding her costar's hand, she only grabbed one finger.
Grande later admitted that she didn't understand what was going on when the discussion about “holding the room” took place.
“So I had no idea what any part of it meant,” the pop star said Diversity earlier this month. “I didn't understand the first sentence. And then I didn't really understand what was going on and how (Cynthia) reacted. I was like, 'Oh, what did she say, what did you hear?' And I just wanted to be there because I knew something was going on big. And I didn't know how to be there.
Grande went on to say that she grabbed Erivo's finger because she thought her costar “needed something,” but admitted that she doesn't know why she started touching the finger.
However, like the rest of the internet, Grande loved memes.
“I'm really relieved that the world at this point was going through the same experience that I was going through, because I was like, 'Oh, I'm not broken,'” she quipped. “The best thing is to really keep a place with it.”
