In 2023, the actor revealed that working on The Crowded Room was “definitely a tough time,” which led to his decision to step away from Hollywood.

In several interviews Tom Holland has opened up about his decision to quit drinkingexplaining that it was not caused by any dramatic incident, but by a deeper understanding of his relationship with alcohol. In an appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast in early 2023, Holland said he had initially accepted the Dry January challenge, but found it more difficult than he had anticipated.
“I didn't wake up one day and say, 'I'm going to quit drinking forever.' I just said, 'I'm going to do Dry January,' and all of a sudden I was like, 'Oh, maybe I'm not in control as much as I thought I was,'” he admitted.
After successfully completing the month, Holland realized how much he was addicted to alcohol and chose to extend his sobriety beyond January. What started as a one-month challenge gradually turned into a year-long commitment and eventually a long-term lifestyle change.

In the UK, “drinking is like breaking bread,” Holland admitted. “It's not about quenching your thirst, because quenching your thirst is about survival. But drinking is about living.” With that in mind, and reflecting on his struggles with sobriety, Holland came up with a plan to launch a line of soft drinks called Bero.
“I definitely had to get out of situations that I thought would put me in a compromising position,” he explained. “One of Bero's biggest inspirations was to help people like me reintegrate into a social environment where they might feel like they're not necessarily welcome.”
