Post-apocalyptic is the new hottest thing in streaming, with shows like Fallout and The Last Of Us earning critical acclaim and big numbers. Among all the post-apocalyptic streaming competition, Apple TV+ Silo stands out as one of the most thoughtful and engaging shows leading the genre right now.

The series is based on the book of the same name Wool by Hugh Hovey. Wool sequel novels eventually followed, and all of that material was used to create Apple TV Silo streaming series. But the show doesn't exactly follow the books, and even if you read them all, you might not understand everything that happens in the series.

We are here to help. Silo Season 2 ended very quickly and there was a lot to figure out and figure out.

Lukas Kyle (Avi Nash), the ever-curious, newly minted IT shadow, opens a giant door. He is led to the door by following a series of codes and clues left by a notorious figure from the tank's past, a man named Salvador Quinn.

The door is hidden deep beneath the Silo, where the abandoned excavation equipment that first excavated the Silo has been left to rot in what appears to be an underground lake of water. No one in Silo can swim, so of the few who have been there, hardly anyone has bothered to explore the lake.

Lukas bets that the lake isn't as deep as it looks and bravely jumps in, proving his hypothesis that it's only waist deep. He wades to the other side where he discovers a large door, a huge door attended by what appears to be some sort of computerized guardian.

What the door tells Lucas Kyle

A voice speaks to Lucas and informs him that if he tells anyone what he finds out there, a security measure will be put in place. This guard will kill everyone in his tank. We later learn that something deadly is poison.

Is there a poison gas hidden behind the door? The door seems a bit large to be used only as a poison gas dispenser, and there are no giant doors in Hugh Howey's books. Silo the streaming series is based on.

For now, the exact nature of the door is still unknown. But we know that the voice behind the door is listening and watching. If Lukas tells anyone about this secret, the poison it controls will be released and everyone in his Silo will die.

We learn that it may be possible to stop the doorman from releasing his deadly poison, thanks to the work of Solo's (Steve Zahn) parents at the Silo next door. But why would these Silos even have tubes full of poison ready to dispense? Why would anyone install something like that? It is thing The second season of Silo doesn't provide an answer, and that answer is more dire than you might have imagined.

Why The defense exists and how to defeat it

The Silo The Season 2 finale hints at where things are going as it flashes back to the past and shows a meeting between a young senator and a reporter.

We know from the books that there are 50 Silos. Juliet's (Rebecca Ferguson) original Silo is Silo 18. Solo Silo is Silo 17. They are all the same except for Silo 1. Silo 1 is a control tank and uses cryogenics to keep the founders of the Silo system alive and working. manage all 50 in shifts.

The poison pipes seemingly behind the giant door that Lucas discovers serve two purposes.

The first objective is to control possible rebellions. If a rebellion breaks out, the poison will be released to destroy the citizens of the offending Shiloh.

You probably thought that the 17 people in Silo died because they went outside. When you stop and think about it, you will realize that it does not make sense. Opening the front door would have only killed the first few of them to get out, and then the others would have seen those trailblazers die and closed the door.

What actually happened in Silo 17 was that the poison was released and the people of Silo tried to escape. They found themselves trapped between the poison rising from the depths of the Silo and the poisonous air outside the front door. The result was the mass death we saw as Juliet crawled over the corpses of the inhabitants to enter Silo 17.

However, wiping out the rebellious Silos is only a secondary purpose of the poison. The true purpose of poison, as outlined in Hugh Howey's books, is to destroy the unworthy.

The Silo system's plan is to wait until it's safe to go outside and then select the Silo they think is the most worthy to survive in the new world. That the people of Shiloh will be freed from their underground city to restore the surface of the Earth. All those left in all the other Silos will be killed.

What's behind the big doors of Silo?

What about the door? While we know the poison defense exists, we don't know for sure if the door is nothing more than a giant poison dispenser lid. The poison might come from somewhere else, and if it does, what's behind the giant door?

We're just speculating here, but the Giant Door could be the way to another Silo. As long as there is no giant door inside Wool books at some point, Silo 18 people dig a tunnel to connect their Silo to the one next to it. Perhaps the series plans to just open that door instead of going through all the trouble of digging a new tunnel.

Or maybe it really is one giant tube filled with poison.
