Just hours before January 19, After the Supreme Court upheld a law that would require TikTok to be sold to a U.S. company in order to remain active in the country, a nationwide ban on the popular video-sharing app has officially gone into effect.

Now when users open the app, they receive a message and no video content. “Sorry, TikTok is not available at the moment,” the note begins. “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the United States. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use TikTok at this time.”

Yes, for now. “We are fortunate that the president (Donald) Asset indicated that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok once he takes office (January 20),” the message continues. “Please stay tuned!”

Last April, President Joe Biden signed the law passed by Congress that would ban internet hosting platforms from distributing and serving TikTok as long as it remains owned by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, citing national security concerns.
