Even though he defies gravity with his Golden Globes 2025 applications, Wicked was not divided into two specific categories.
The film, based on the hit Broadway musical,received four nominationsbut was not nominated in either the Best Original Score or Best Original Song categories.
The reason being that the film featured very little original music written for the screen. Instead, the score and songs were based on the 2003 musical, which featured the music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartzwho also worked on the film adaptation.
According to the Golden Globe Awards eligibility and consideration rulesa “score must be primarily original music written specifically for the film” to be nominated, while an original song must have music and lyrics “original and written specifically for the film.”
Always, Wicked has a chance to win awards for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Best Cinematography and Box Office Achievement during the Jan. 5 telecast, as well as potential winnings for the stars Cynthia Erivowho is nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or comedy and Ariana Grande for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
