On Monday, January 6, Dr. Umar took to Instagram to share a photo and a long message with your followers. Additionally, the image featured a picture of him dressed in traditional clothing with text that partially read: “…CITIZEN OF GHANA 1.6.25”

In the caption of his post, Dr. Umar shared his excitement and gratitude.

“While I am by no means the first diaspora African to be granted citizenship of the Mother Continent, I may very well be the most prominent Pan-African to have achieved it so far in the 21st century. For a Pan-African prince to be granted legal citizenship in Africa completely and forever changes the narrative and direction of the global Pan-Africanist movement and will renew African consciousness around the world,” he wrote in part.

Mendeecees then used the platform to share a common position with Yandy Smith. The post also featured a photo of them smiling while donning traditional clothing.

“Today we are officially Ghanaians 🇬🇭 I am not African because I was born in Africa but because Africa was born in me. 🇬🇭🇬🇭 ~ Kwame Nkrumah,” their joint signature read in part.
